In a recent joint briefing by Security, Defence, and Response agencies organized by the Strategic Communications Interagency Policy Committee under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
In Abuja, the Director Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, revealed significant progress in the fight against insurgency and crime in Nigeria.
Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba disclosed that in the past year, Nigerian security forces have recorded remarkable achievements, including the killing of 9,303 individuals, the arrest of 6,998 suspects, and the surrender of 9,562 Boko Haram/ISWAP combatant fighters and their families.
Furthermore, the troops have successfully rescued 4,641 hostages and apprehended 1,437 suspected oil thieves.
The report also highlighted the efforts in the Niger Delta Region, where 363 criminals were neutralized, and 245 kidnapped hostages were rescued.
The Nigerian Police Force played a significant role in addressing various criminal activities, with the apprehension of suspects involved in armed robbery, kidnap, rape/sexual crimes, unlawful possession of firearms, cultism, murder/homicide, and other offenses.
Additionally, the police rescued 1,713 kidnap victims and recovered a substantial amount of vehicles, motorcycles, firearms, and ammunition.
Moreover, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) successfully thwarted 48 attacks/kidnap attempts on schools, dismantled over 1,975 illegal mining sites and uncovered 165 illegal local refineries.
In terms of revenue generation and anti-smuggling efforts, the Nigeria Customs Service made exceptional strides, with the recovery of contraband goods, illegal arms, narcotics, and the prevention of potential attacks by recovering suicide jackets and lethal weapons.
The agencies also impounded 50,000 illicit liters of petroleum products, reinforcing efforts to disrupt criminal activities involving illicit petroleum products.
