Breaking: Protest Erupts At JAMB Policy Meeting Over Age Restriction For Tertiary Admission

0

Abuja, July 13, 2024 – Stakeholders and attendees at the ongoing policy meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) erupted in protest as the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, announced a new policy restricting tertiary institution admissions to candidates aged 18 and above.

Prof. Mamman reiterated his stance, asserting that candidates below 18 were a major source of crises in the nation’s universities.

The declaration, made at the Body of Benchers’ auditorium in Abuja, sparked immediate and vocal opposition from the participants.

As soon as the minister made the announcement, the hall resounded with loud protests, with attendees shouting, “No, no, no.” Despite the uproar, Mamman stood firm, emphasizing that the age restriction was already a federal government policy aimed at addressing significant issues plaguing tertiary institutions.

“The decision is a federal government policy designed to mitigate some of the critical problems facing our universities,” Prof. Mamman stated.

Details on the implementation and impact of this new policy are expected to follow.
